Bio

Shannon Amidon was born and raised in San Jose, California. She grew up on a small ranch surrounded by the beauty of nature. Enthralled by her natural surroundings she began capturing the mysterious and divine beauties around her with a camera. Fostered by encouraging parents, her budding creativity blossomed into a passionate pursuit.
Shannon is a self taught artist and photographer, who works mainly with alternative processes in an attempt to break through the confines of traditional media and conventional forms. She prefers to experiment with methods that give depth and texture to her photographs. Using processes such as liquid emulsion, Polaroid transfers and non silver techniques she achieves a more painterly look and feel to her work. Shannon also creates photo-based assemblage and mixed media collage pieces, which allows her to expand the meaning and connotation of a photograph by adding elements such as metals, glass, paint, and found objects.
Shannon has participated in many gallery and alternative space exhibits in the California Bay Area. She is also a member of many arts organizations in the Bay Area and is active in the arts community. Shannon is also involved in education outreach for children and young artist mentoring.
