Statement
I have a great appreciation for the natural sciences; I feel that in this modern age we need reminders of the beauty and mystery of the natural world. I don't try and portray the obvious or even reality as I see it. I strive to express a unique viewpoint and a sense of mystery.
When I approach a new series I want to engross myself in it completely. I spend a large amount of time exploring, studying and researching my subject matter and how to best represent it. I don't feel I can do my subject justice until I know it intimately. Therefore I do everything possible to immerse myself in it.
I seek to push the boundaries of photography, blurring the lines
between fine art and traditional photography I attempt to free the photographic
medium from the burden of its traditional representation. I have a fascination
with process and texture; I feel these things breath life into my art. I use
photography as a foundation for all of my artwork I build, manipulate, layer
or merge photographs, primarily using alternative photographic process and
a variety of non-silver printing techniques. I often incorporate found and
natural materials into each series, giving each piece warmth and life. These
processes allow me to use my hands and be more intimate with the creation
of each piece.
